Philadelphia has gone Blu. The former Radisson Plaza–Warwick Hotel has been converted into the Radisson Blu Warwick Hotel, Philadelphia. The 301-room historic hotel was officially rebranded on Oct. 31 after a $20 million renovation, which included redesign of all guestrooms and corridors, a new Business Class floor with a private lounge, and a 2,000-square-foot fitness center.
“We are continuing to grow Radisson Blu in the Americas, and with the addition of a Radisson Blu on the East Coast, the upper-upscale brand’s visibility continues to grow,” said Thorsten Kirschke, president, Americas, Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. “The hotel is the fourth Radisson Blu in the Americas and joins the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel, Chicago; Radisson Blu Mall of America and Radisson Blu Resort, Marina & Spa, St. Martin.”
The hotel’s redesign reflects Radisson Blu’s signature, contemporary style, while maintaining the charm and heritage of the landmark property. The hotel’s historic connection to the city is underscored with Philadelphia-centric art displayed throughout the corridors and on the headboards in each room, giving the property a true sense of place. The grand lobby, the centerpiece of the redesign, has been completely transformed into a welcoming, cozy, gathering area for guests and locals alike.
The property boasts three dining venues, including: Tavern 17, which serves tavern classics with a modern spin; The Coffee Bar, a local favorite with fresh-roasted fair trade coffee, handcrafted menu items and an extensive craft beer and wine selection; and Prime Rib, an upscale steakhouse offering high quality meats and seafood and nightly piano entertainment.
Plans to update the hotel’s 17,000 square feet of meeting and event space are scheduled for early 2014.
Originally opened in 1926, the hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and, in keeping with Radisson’s commitment to responsible business practices and environmental stewardship, the property has been recognized by the Green Key Eco-Rating Program with a 4 Green Key rating. The hotel is also the recent recipient of the prestigious TripAdvisor® Certificate of Excellence for its consistent, outstanding reviews from travelers.
